Our Rescues

Here are some of my friends! Some may still need a foster, but they all need a permanent home!  ~ Leo Z

Middy 1 yr Pocket Pibble

Middy was found by Officers with animal services tied up in the basement of a business. No one knew how long he had been down there or who put him there other than he was sweet as honey and was malnourished.

Middy languished at the City of Hot Springs Animal Services for the longest time. He was attentive and always loving. He was scared of the constant loud barking and often hid outside when people walked by so he was rarely seen. He was our longest resident. I fell in love with him in #1. I couldn't let him be passed over anymore. So, I did what any person with a 501c3 would do, I pulled him knowing he was a good boy and just needed the right person to help him.

Amazing trainer Ms. Karen Kelley, Helping Dogs Be Dogs, volunteered to get Middy where he needed to be. She's been working with him since early August and he has made huge strides. He needs a loving home so Ms. Karen can help the next puppy!

Middy is now a social butterfly. He loves playtime with other dogs, people love, and did we mention playing? He lets you know when he needs to go potty and loves um, PLAYING!

Do you have a family who needs this boy who loves all? Plays well with kids and adults and enjoys being loved on? Then Middy is your boy! He's fully vetted, heartworm negative, and ready to be your new besty!

Did we mention he's: Kennel trained, treat motivated, and excellent on a leash?

LeeAnns Rescue Continuing Leo's Legacy paid all his bills. If you can't adopt, any donation (tax-deductible) would be appreciated.

Thank you Ms. Karen for helping us with your skills yet again. ~ LeeAnn Z

Lakelynn

Lakelynn is the Lakeside, Mcdonald's, MLK bypass dog that took a long time to catch and was brought to Hot Springs Animal Services (HSAS). LeeAnn's Rescue pulled her today (08/17/2023). HSAS saw very little progress had been made as Lakelynn is terrified of the barking and noises of the kennel environment. An angel, Ms. Linda B. has been visiting daily and trying to gain Lakelynn's trust now for three weeks. She's made some progress, but not like we all wanted. After some discussions, LeeAnn’s Rescue pulled her and Ms. Linda is fostering her to see if being in another environment will help with decompressing. We all are hoping she will make huge strides. We can only imagine what she has gone through to have zero trust in humans.

Lakelynn now has her own room and as soon as she got there she immediately found her safe spot in her nice, comfy kennel.

So many people shouted from the rooftops they wanted this girl when no one could catch her. Then, she was saved and all but two disappeared. Thank you Cyndi and Linda for your loyalty in visiting and loving Lakelynn daily. Ms. Linda, without you, none of this would be possible.

Piddles 11 yr Bull Terrier

We always pick the dogs who need us most. We've had very few dogs we've adopted who were "ready made" dogs. Most have been thrown away, dejected or medically in need. We always have pulled for the underdog, the ones who need us in the beginning as much as we need them in the end.

Piddles, who was very critical at City of Hot Springs Animal Services was so frightened, he would pee himself when a human touched him. He was too terrified to walk on a leash and had to be carried. His eyes, no matter the amount of creams and medicines would swell shut with puss.

A miracle foster, Ms. Jean, saw something in Piddles. We pulled him from Animal Services and worked with him along with Ms. Jean. He went for his neuter appointment and THAH amazingly made time to work on Piddles eyes. He had severe Entropion in both eyes. They were never going to get better without corrective surgery.

One week after surgery and Piddles is THRIVING. He can finally see! He isn't scared of his shadow. He is enjoying people and being touched. He's playing with other dogs for the first time. He still has a ways to go but will get there and be ready for a new home after he fully recovers. We are more than excited for his future, when before he had no future.

Max senior Pitbull

Max was brought into HSAS as a stray who was found on a major roadway/US Highway. He was microchipped and we located his owners in Tempe, AZ. They said he had been missing for five years. CRAZY right? Then what was even crazier, they said they didn't want this sweet, amazing pibble back?!?! We reached out to the public to see if anyone had owned him in our area in the last five years. No one.

On day two of his stay, we could tell he wasn't feeling the best and then another amazing person contacted me! Ms. Karen Kelley, our dog trainer from Little Rock called and said she wanted to help Max. She swooped down from Little Rock and became his medical foster, where he remains today until more decisions can be made.

Maylin 3 yr Staffordshire Terrier/Hound Mix

Maylin, is the longest of our fosters and has been with the rescue for NINE months! Here's her story and why it's taken 9 months for her to be available for adoption.

Maylin was failed by humans. She was picked up by Hot Springs Animal Services at the beginning of November 2022. She couldn't even be touched the first few days she was at the shelter. She had a logging chain attached to her neck tightly. The thick chain was over four feet long and no one could get close enough to get it off of her.

My sweet husband saw something in her eyes and knew he could change the way she reacted. After a few days, he was able to win her over and get the heavy chain off of her. At that moment, he promised her, he would not let another human fail her the way she had been failed for her first two and a half years.

He made a call to "someone he knew" and I came and met her. She immediately walked up to me and kissed me. We decided we would pull her and put our all into her. The first order of business was a name. Maylin, meaning "great waterfall" fit this girl to a tee.

We found out she was heartworm positive, so we paid for treatment and were blessed to have Holly Alexander Photography take her photos. The great Karen Kelley began training Maylin for a few months and then, a K9 officer, TJ Mac volunteered to help. Officer Mac has been fostering and training Maylin for the past 5 months or so. Sweet Maylin has even stayed with us a few times this summer for a week-at-a-time stint.

Maylin loves sitting on the porch. She loves playing with submissive male dogs. She needs an owner who is direct and knows how to love a dog who was once so badly abused, neglected, and hurt. She just wants to know she can trust you. It hurts to see the pain in her eyes.

Maylin enjoys one to two walks/jogs a day. She thrives on activity and being able to run on a leash. So, she will need an active family who will love her for her faults and for her amazing achievements.

Maylin has been spayed, weighs 49 pounds, is now heartworm negative, and is on heartworm prevention.

We hope and pray some of you see what we have seen in Maylin since day one. Please let us know as we know she is finally ready to be someone's dog.

I want to send a great thank you to all who have taken part in her transformation. It's truly amazing.
